League Rules — Summer 2026
Overview
The Lake Wilborn Wiffleball League is a friendly, competitive league for the men of the neighborhood. Games are played on Saturdays. Good sportsmanship is expected at all times. Have fun.
Teams & Rosters
- Each team carries a minimum of 4 players and a maximum of 8.
- Every team must designate one team captain responsible for communicating with the commissioner and reporting scores.
- Rosters are locked after Week 2 of the regular season.
- Players may not play for more than one team in the same season.
Game Format
- Games are 7 innings, or 90 minutes — whichever comes first.
- Each half-inning ends after 3 outs.
- A run is scored when a baserunner crosses home plate before the third out.
- There are no walks. All pitches must be swung at or called strikes.
- A called strike zone is the width of home plate and between the batter's knees and shoulders.
- Games tied after 7 innings end as a tie. No extra innings in the regular season.
Batting Rules
- Batting order must be set before the game and followed throughout.
- Bunting is not allowed.
- A foul ball on a 2-strike count is an out.
- Ghost runners may be used when fewer than 4 players are present. Agree on placement before the inning starts.
Pitching Rules
- Pitching distance is 42 feet from home plate.
- No bouncing the ball intentionally on the way to the plate.
- Each pitcher has a 5-run limit per inning. After 5 runs allowed in a single inning, a new pitcher must be brought in.
- One pitcher change per inning maximum.
Fielding Rules
- A minimum of 3 fielders is required to play. Games cannot begin with fewer than 3 active fielders per side.
- Fielders must remain behind the pitcher until the ball is hit.
- A batted ball caught on a fly — including off a fence or wall — is an out.
- There are no force-outs at first base. The fielder must tag the runner or the base path.
Scoring
- Final scores must be reported by a team captain via the league app within 24 hours of game completion.
- In the event of a disputed score, the commissioner's ruling is final.
- Run differential (runs scored minus runs allowed across all games) is used as a tiebreaker in the standings.
Playoffs
- The top 4 teams by regular season record advance to the playoffs.
- Tiebreaker order: wins → fewest losses → run differential → head-to-head record.
- Playoff format: Single-elimination semifinals and a championship game.
- Playoff games cannot end in a tie — extra innings will be played until a winner is determined.
- Playoff schedule will be announced by the commissioner at the conclusion of Week 10.
Code of Conduct
- Treat all players, captains, and neighbors with respect.
- Alcohol is permitted in moderation. Intoxicated players may be removed at the commissioner's discretion.
- Disputes should be resolved calmly. If unresolved, pause play and contact the commissioner.
- Intentional rule violations or unsportsmanlike conduct may result in suspension.
- Above all: this is a neighborhood league. Keep it fun.
